EcoPure® is an organic plastic additive that can be easily added to just about any plastic application during the manufacturing process. Read below to learn more about the process of adding EcoPure® to your plastic products—and how it can demonstrate your company’s commitment to the environment.
Yes, Bio-Tec Environmental, LLC, can work closely with you to create a custom designed plastic additive. Our testing team will work with you to design and implement an additive that will work best with any type of plastic product.
No, adding EcoPure® during the manufacturing process does not require equipment modification. EcoPure® is added via a standard commercial gravimetric hopper just as you would add a colorant into the extruder feed throat.
EcoPure® treated plastics are as strong, durable and dependable as non-treated plastics. EcoPure® is only activated when in a microbe-rich environment, such as a landfill. Otherwise, EcoPure® treated plastics last just as long as non-treated plastics.
Typically, less than 1% concentration is needed to transform otherwise non-biodegradable products into an eco-friendly alternative. Our products are usually loaded at 0.7-4% by weight, depending on the product application.
EcoPure® accelerates the biodegradation of treated plastics in microbe-rich environments, including landfills, where more than 80% of plastics are disposed. According to D5511 and GPC test results, EcoPure® significantly accelerates the biodegradation* process, resulting in safely degraded plastics in a fraction of the time.
Yes, EcoPure® can be used in just about any type of plastic processing, including EVA, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PET, GPPS, PP, HIPS, polycarbonate, nylon and many engineered resins.
* Biodegradation rates of EcoPure®-treated plastic materials measured according to the ASTM D5511 test method. Tests are generally conducted using 20% to 30% solids content; solids content in naturally wetter landfills range from 55% to 65%, while the driest landfills may reach 93%. Actual biodegradation rates will vary in biologically-active landfills according to the type of plastic used, the product configuration, and the solid content, temperature and moisture levels of the landfill.
