Biodegradable* Polypropylene, or PP, is a thermoplastic polymer that is recognized for its strength, stiffness and resistance to heat.
This plastic can be co-polymerized to increase its strength and durability. It is generally used in products that are microwave and dishwasher safe. It’s also a great option for beverage & food storage.
PP plastic product examples are:
- Bottles
- Caps
- Straws
- Food containers
- Shipping containers
- Drink lids
- Packaging
The strong polymers that create PP plastic are persistent, allowing the material to be durable over long periods of time. This allows it, for example, to outlive the shelf life of its food product many times over. Just adding 1% of EcoPure® to PP plastics can reduce the time that products take to decompose in a landfill. Our additive has been tested using the rigorous ASTM-D5511 method and confirmed in hundreds of independent third-party laboratory tests. Making plastic products biodegradable* with EcoPure does not affect the quality, clarity or color of your product until after it comes into contact with a biologically active environment, such as a landfill.
* Biodegradation rates of EcoPure®-treated plastic materials measured according to the ASTM D5511 test method. Tests are generally conducted using 20% to 30% solids content; solids content in naturally wetter landfills range from 55% to 65%, while the driest landfills may reach 93%. Actual biodegradation rates will vary in biologically-active landfills according to the type of plastic used, the product configuration, and the solid content, temperature and moisture levels of the landfill.
