Biodegradable* Polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, is a thermoplastic resin that is lightweight and is usually extremely malleable.
PET and PETG resins are semi-rigid to rigid, depending on their thickness, and are often found in products, such as:
- Soda bottles
- Single use water bottles
- Food storage containers & jars
- Custom engineered resins
PET plastics can be combined with other rigid materials to create an even stronger plastic product. Built to withstand multiple uses, PET plastics continue to be resilient even after disposal, this fact contributes to the growing problem of plastic pollution worldwide.Bio-Tec Environmental, LLC offers an end-of-life solution to help these products become more biodegradable* once disposed of in a biologically-active environment.
EcoPure® additives can be used in the manufacturing a wide variety of PET products. EcoPure® does not affect the color, clarity or overall quality of PET plastics until after they are exposed to a biologically active environment, such as a landfill.
* Biodegradation rates of EcoPure®-treated plastic materials measured according to the ASTM D5511 test method. Tests are generally conducted using 20% to 30% solids content; solids content in naturally wetter landfills range from 55% to 65%, while the driest landfills may reach 93%. Actual biodegradation rates will vary in biologically-active landfills according to the type of plastic used, the product configuration, and the solid content, temperature and moisture levels of the landfill.
